Prostate Cancer: From Screening to Treatment
Wednesday, August 23,12p-1p CST
About the Webinar:
According to the American Cancer Society, in 2023 there will be an estimated 2,180 new cases of prostate cancer and 170 deaths from prostate cancer in Nebraska. Data also shows that prostate cancer has the second highest incidence rate (2015-2019) and the third highest death rate in Nebraska for all cancers (2016-2020). In 2020, only 29.5% of men 40 and older in Nebraska had a PSA test within the past 2 years. Please join us to better understand the importance of prostate cancer screening, hear about exciting new treatments/practices for prostate cancer and learn about the impact of prostate cancer on survivorship.
Learning Objectives:
1) Identify national and local prostate cancer incidence, mortality and screening data.
2) Review the evidence and rationale supporting clinical recommendations for prostate cancer screening methods.
3) Discuss updated treatments and practices for prostate cancer.
4) Illustrate the impact of prostate cancer on survivorship.
About the Speaker
Randy Duckert, MD, is a Radiation Oncologist at the Morrison Cancer Center in Hastings/Grand Island. He realized his call to medicine when a young family member was diagnosed with a highly malignant brain tumor. Dr. Duckert graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin where he developed an interest in malignant neurological disease. He completed his internship at LDS Hospital and residency training at the University of Utah, where his research interest involved abnormal tumor vasculature in central nervous system tumors. After four years at the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo, Dr. Duckert took a position at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, where he was medical director of a large, research-oriented clinic for 17 of his 25 years there. He joined the Morrison Cancer Center in October 2021. He is a strong advocate for "delivering state-of-the-art treatment in the same manner we'd expect for ourselves and our family. This requires skill and, importantly, demands honesty, and the ability to listen, educate and encourage people with a diagnosis of cancer."
