Tobacco Cessation Week

Statewide partners are working collaboratively to raise awareness about tobacco cessation through a variety of activities and events in November 2019.  We invite you to join with us.  The purpose for this year's work is to decrease tobacco use in Nebraska by increasing partner engagement in Tobacco Cessation Week (November 18-22, 2019).

 Resources for Awareness

  


 Great American Smokeout Event Tools & Resources - Downloadable resources for use in workplaces, health systems, and other places in your community. Resources include posters, flyers, print ads, table signs and more!


The Tips campaign profiles real people who are living with serious long-term health effects from smoking and secondhand smoke exposure. Campaign resources include badges/buttons, videos, images/photos,social media content, podcasts, print ads, & matte articles.

 

The FDA Center for Tobacco Products’ Exchange Lab provides free print materials and web content aimed at communicating the dangers of tobacco use. 


Training Resources

Learn how to provide evidence-based cessation counseling, how to help your patients identify triggers, withdrawal symptoms, and coping techniques to successfully quit for good. After completion, participants may enroll

with Nebraska Medicaid as a Tobacco Cessation Counselor.




 A guide for mental health treatment facilities to help implement a tobacco cessation program for individuals with

SMI. This objective will require staff time and resources, and it may also require a

culture shift within your agency. It is

worth the investment, however,  because of the clear benefits that will accrue to your clients, their families,

and your staff.


Comprehensive tobacco cessation training program that equips health professional students and practicing clinicians, of all disciplines, with evidence-based knowledge and skills for assisting patients with quitting.Addresses all forms of tobacco, not just cigarettes, and materials focus on counseling all patients—regardless of their readiness to quit.

Freshstart is designed to help smokers plan a successful quit attempt by

providing essential information, skills for coping with cravings, and group support. To offer the program, a representative from your organization must volunteer to become a certified Freshstart facilitator and complete certification training online. After certification is completed, the

facilitator can begin offering the

program.
