About the Speaker:

Thomas Klingemann, Pharm D

UNMC pharmacist and smoking cessation expert

Dr. Klingemann was born in rural Nebraska and raised on a small farm.  He attended Southeast Community College in Milford, NE after high school and earned an Associates Degree in Diesel Technology.  Along the way he also picked up the habit of smoking. In 1990 he finally won his 10 year struggle with nicotine and contemplated a career change.

He was accepted into UNMC College of Pharmacy in 1994 and Peru State College  Bachelor of Technology program that same year.  Dr. Klingemann saw the need for better education and therapy for nicotine addiction in the healthcare industry.  Relying on his personal experience, his clinical work during pharmacy school, and his certification as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) through the Univerity of Pittsburgh, he started a Tobacco Treatment clinic through Nebraska Medicine Clinic Pharmacy where he was employed after pharmacy school in 1998.  Dr. Klingemann continued his education with an additional TTS certification through Mayo Clinic’s program in 2010. His wide range of past work and life experiences have provided him a great background in counseling patients from all walks of life.

Dr. Klingemann has had numerous speaking opportunities over the past two decades. He has given numerous lectures in the colleges at UNMC.    He has been part of many media campaigns to treat nicotine addiction and has played a key role in setting hospital policy regarding nicotine use at Nebraska Medicine.
