About the Speaker:

Megan S. Kelley, PhD, CHES
Assistant Professor
Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences
University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Megan Kelley is an assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences at UNL. While volunteering in high school as an English tutor, she became interested in immigrant and refugee health after listening to local families share stories about their struggles to thrive in a new country. Several years and a few degrees later, she became involved with immigrant and refugee health issues across the state while working as a community health educator in the Nebraska Office of Health Disparities and Health Equity. More recently, she delved into current research on the health characteristics and needs of vulnerable populations as a graduate research assistant at the UNMC Center for Reducing Health Disparities. These days, her teaching and research at UNL focus on health disparities, health communication and program planning, and social and behavioral determinants of health.
